Christina Sgouromiti holds an MA in Drawing and BA Hons in Painting from Camberwell College of Art, University of the Arts, London.  She is currently a PhD candidate at the Athens Academy of Fine Arts, Department of Art Theory and History jointly with Department of Social Anthropology, University of the Aegean. The research subject examines the role of art communities in transitional societies, with a focus on post civil war Greece.

She has worked extensively with artists’ groups and cross-field collaborations, mainly in the form of site-specific installations. (AREA10, ARTIVISTS, under construction group, Locus Solus, Christian Boltanski show at South London Gallery) 

A solo show was held in Clarion Contemporary Art, London (2006) while she has participated in several group shows in Athens and abroad, most recently in CAMP Project Space (2013), STUDIO visits Berlin (2012), Beton7 (2012), Benaki and Byzantine Museum (2010), Zouboulakis Gallery (2009). Future shows include: Art Athina 2014/ Out of the Box Intermedia, Kakoyiannis Foundation, Romantso Art Space and Zouboulakis Gallery.

She has received awards and grants from Heraclitus European Research Fund, Leventis Foundation, IOI Open Image Contest, CIMA project space, ERT-EDN. 

She has taught painting, drawing and art theory as visiting professor in various state institutions and the American University (2008-2010). In 2011 she was appointed Arts Coordinator at Mithymna Municipal Gallery, in Lesvos. (www.mithimnagallery.blogspot.com) The Gallery is aiming to promote contact between Greek periphery and contemporary art production. To this end, every year a different curator is invited. This year’s curator is Vassileia Stylianidou/Berlin.
