O, Lord! | Giorgos Maraziotis
Exhibition duration: April 14th – May 20th, 2011 Exhibition Hours: Mon - Fri, 2-9 pm; Sat 2-6 pm
Beton7 Gallery presents "O, LORD!" a solo exhibition of Giorgos Maraziotis. Maraziotis’ paintings depict saint portraits and pictures of Jesus’ life. They are worked upon cardboard and big dimensioned camvas using inks, acrylics, pens and pencils. With his own dark style he combines, his basic source of inspiration Byzantine iconography and renaissance painting, creating sometimes forms related to comics.Maraziotis studied the saints’ lives extensively and depicts those in relation to his own personal experiences. The surreal elements he adds into his paintings result to a bold effect, with which he excites the viewer’s imagination and provokes the traditional view upon religious art.
Born in Athens, in 1984. Studied (BA(Hons)) Illustration at the University of Wolverhampton from where he graduated with a 1st Class Degree and Silkscreen at the School of Visual Arts in NYC. He has been working as a painter and visual artist with various teams and institutions (both public and private ones). Since 2007, he has also been working as a set- designer for the theater. In 2012, he was proposed to represent Greece at the 1st W.Y.A exhibition in Nottingham while at the same time, he was invited as a guest lecturer at the Digital Communication Department of Wolverhampton University. Finally, his work has been exhibited in team and solo shows in Greece and abroad.
