Amalia Kountouri (flute) and Myrto Akrivou (piano) have been playing together since 2008 exploring the modern flute-piano repertoire. They have given numerous concerts in Athens and other cities and have participated in chamber music festivals in Greece. They are interested in the works of modern Greek composers and often perform their music.
Amalia Kountouri was born in Athens, Greece. She studied the flute with Janina Batko and received her Diploma in Flute Performance in 1992 from the Municipal Conservatory in Thessalonica. She has attended flute seminars with M. Grauwels, B. Frommanger and J. Elvira and seminars for the interpretation of early music with C. Rousset, T. Watanabe and E. Michelangeli. She is currently studying the recorder with Dimitris Kountouras and jazz improvisation with Sylvios Syrros. She is a member of various chamber music groups in Athens (Duo Capricorn, Con Fusion, Free Time Quartet) and also plays Brazilian bossa nova and Jazz. She has also participated in various CD recordings and has recorded for the 3rd Program of the Greek National Radio. She is a founding member of the baroque music ensemble Ritornello who play on period instruments. She teaches the flute and chamber music in conservatories in Athens. She is also a veterinary surgeon with a Masters degree in Wild Animal Health from the Royal Veterinary College in London.
Myrto Akrivou was born in Athens, Greece. She studied the piano at the National Conservatory in Athens, graduated from the class of Elena Mouzala and received her Diploma with honors and second prize. She pursued her studies at the London College of Music at Thames Valley University and received a Performer’s Recital Diploma under Penny Sue Joyce. She has also received a Diploma in classical singing from the class of Angelika Famelou. She has a degree in Harmony from the class of Mathew Legakis. She has attended master classes in piano performance with A. Lefevre, R. Jansen and G. Ganev and many pedagogical seminars on piano teaching. She has performed as a soloist and collaborated with the Chamber Opera of Athens, Trio Olympico, Trio da Camera and various other ensembles in concerts all over Greece and abroad. She is a founding member and soprano of Eklipsis vocal ensemble and pianist of NuovArte Chamber Orchestra. She teaches piano and singing in conservatories in Athens and works as an accompanist for singers and performers of various instruments.
