Beton7 Gallery presents the solo exhibition of Euripides Altintzoglou titled “Grand Detour”.

Opening: February 19, 2016, 8:00 p.m.
Duration: from February 19 to March 4, 2016
Opening hours: Monday to Friday, 14:00 to 19:00

Euripides Altintzoglou returns to Beton7 Arts with a new group of works that engage with a range of issues related to the crisis of late capitalism. The collection of works does not simply address socio-economic phenomena and their effects but attempts to stimulate the generation of new forms of political agency. True to the avant-garde ethos Altintzoglou’s methods draw from the radical approaches of Situationism, while he breaks new ground by using ‘theft’ objects as a creative mode of production.

Euripides Altintzoglou was born in Drama in 1978. Enthused by Conceptual Art, in 1996 he begins his studies at the Department of Fine Arts at the University of Wolverhampton, specializing in Sculpture, supervised by David Bainbridge (founding member of Conceptual Art group Art & Language). He continues his postgraduate studies at the same institution choosing directions that expand his practice (MA, Fine Art as Social Practice) and also theoretical and philosophical interests (PhD, Dualism and the Critical Languages of Portraiture). In 2011 he launches the international research journal Desearch, providing publishing opportunities to young researchers, for which he soon wins British and European awards. Since 2013 he is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Photography, Wolverhampton School of Art, University of Wolverhampton. He is the co-editor (with Martin Fredriksson) of Revolt and Revolution: The Protester in the 21st Century published by Inter-Disciplinary Press (Oxford, UK). His work has been exhibited internationally in private galleries and public museums of Great Britain.
