German films at BETON7 It is presented for four more screenings on cooperation of Goethe-Institut Athen and Art and Beton7 Center for the Arts.
The story of a century - the first saved German animation movie is an advertisment from 1909: TO NEW YEAR'S HEALTH (1910), which marked a close interacting relationship between animation and advertisement. The program includes 49 video clips, which show creations from famous cinematographers of the German film art, such as Hans Fischerkoesen, Wolfgang Kaskeline, Julius Pinschewer, Lotte Reiniger or Walther Ruttmann, independent advertisements from the former E. Germany and well-known Acts such as those of WIR SIND HELDEN FUNKSTÖRUNG, or ZERO 7. The commercials outline a diverse picture of German animation of the last hundred years and documenting in a funny way how ads not only reflect our society, but also they affect it. Charm, grace, subtlety, elegance, inspiration, the gaiety, humor, fun, imagination, but above all magic is the word that could describe the films of Lotte Reiniger. Lotte Reiniger (1899-1981) is the great Lady of pioneering cinema. She is the one who created the first music clip in the history of cinema with patterns of Mozart and is honored until today by the young cartoon creators. Her life and work are exciting. Belonging to the literary circle of Bertolt Brecht, she early experienced in 20s great people of art, including László Moholy-Nagy, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff, Carl Zuckmayer, Fritz Lang, Georg Wilhelm Pabst. She collaborated also with Paul Wegener, Jean Renoir and Walter Ruttmann. Lotte Reiniger was distinguished not only for film productions, but also for her mastery and expertise of shadow theatre, book illustrations and her activity in the theater. Lotte Reiniger's filming work is interwoven with tales and music. With unsurpassed technique and delicate humor she drawed and cut light paper silhouettes, created essential creatures that glide in space with absolute grace and beauty without ever losing touch with reality.
